Code of Conduct

The Seattle Triathlon Group (STG) strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for all who are interested in participating in multi-sport events. This Code of Conduct is intended to outline the standards that members of STG are expected to uphold in order to retain the privileges of membership. Behaviors that negatively affect other STG members, the reputation and well-being of the organization, or other participants in sporting events are unacceptable for members regardless of when or where they occur. Failure to abide by the Code of Conduct may result in suspension or revocation of membership in STG. Expectations for members include, but are not limited to, the following:

Training and Race Safety: When participating in STG events, or at any time representing STG by wearing a team kit or gear, members will conduct themselves in a way that ensures their personal safety and the safety of others. This includes wearing appropriate safety gear, such as bike helmets, and riding safely and respectfully on a bike. Members shall be personally responsible for familiarizing themselves with the rules of the road, the rules of the sport, necessary safety precautions, and handling skills.

STG will not tolerate abuse in any form including physical, mental, sexual, verbal abuse, or otherwise. Members should be aware of the impact of their words and actions and their potential negative impacts; microaggressions, including unintended ones, are harmful and STG seek to eliminate them.

Sexual Harassment: Sexual Harassment by any STG representative or member will not be tolerated, Individuals engaging in sexual harassment are subject to revocation of group membership, will be prohibited from participating in STG events, and will not be refunded membership fees or any other fees previously paid to the group. Sexual harassment includes non-consensual sexual contact of any type and other inappropriate or unwanted conduct of a sexual nature whether verbal, non-verbal, graphic, physical, or otherwise.

In the context of group interactions (both in-person and online), members shall not use any form of communication that is derogatory or personally damaging, nor conduct or condone any programs, activities, publications, speeches or conduct which is offensive, in poor taste, or otherwise considered detrimental to the best interests of the club. Online activities and postings in STG channels must always be respectful of others views and opinions, shall not be degrading to other STG members or other people, and must always be conducted with an awareness of when the online discussion is no longer productive and should be ended.

Responsibility: When signing up for a STG event for which entry is limited or a fee is required, members shall exercise their best efforts to attend, and if unable to attend, shall notify the event's organizer as early as possible but no later than 24 hours in advance.
